Former President Bill Clinton one day was quoted as saying ” for a generation that fought the establishment we have become the most materialistic culture in human history”. The sad truth is that he was right and it’s only getting worse. The reality is that for all of the time, pressure and money people put on themselves about getting the new best thing in the end all of that stuff will wind up in a landfill someplace. It will just rot away. Just look around at your daily life. How many items do you have in your home that just sits someplace and never gets used? I suspect for most of us that number is pretty high. These things also represent what your priorities you have in your life. Look around just think how much stuff you will be sending to your nearest landfill one day?
As we go through life over time many seek a partner of one kind or another however the is a flaw a major flaw in that thinking. You see there is only one partner in your life that matters and that is the person you look at in the mirror. From the time of conception until you take your last breath there is only one constant and is that is you. In life you learn that 90 to 95 percent of people are just passing through. That made sound cold but take some time to look at your life and look at all the people who have passed through. I am not saying that those people were not important at that time but now they wouldn’t be as necessary . Just stop and think how many people that have passed through the years and at the time you couldn’t think what life would be without them? Guess what? Life goes on! When you lay your head on the pillow at only you have to live with the consequences and that is the way it should be because you sure wouldn’t want someone else to have that power in your life.
There is a growing trend and I think it’s a good one. The reality is like many things in it’s beginning social media was good. Now it has turned into a total nightmare. Just think of all the damage it has done. One of the biggest issues is that with all of the social media garbage in people’s lives many people have lost the art of simple conversation. It’s not just the younger folks for there are as many ” adults” that have the same problem. The fact is at the start of each day we think we have 86,000 seconds ( unless your demise happens) the problem in many ways self inflicted. Then you have companies like Kroger that allow their employees to look at their electrical devices while they are supposed to be working! Life is complicated enough without added garbage like social media in our lives.
As we go through life we begin to develop what I call the “weeds of life”. They are those thing that bog you down with all sorts of small stuff that isn’t really that important but necessary. A prime example of is the paying of bills that you know you need to do put off. The problem comes when things that are really important come up you have all those weeds growing around your feet that can make the serious issue that much difficult to handle!
