We have all heard the saying that goes ” actions speak louder than words”. That is a saying that gets repeated so often that in many ways it has lost it’s meaning. There are words that convey actions but those can be hollow. Actions on the other had can say more about a person than every word ever written. The thing is there is this notion that actions have to be some big grand act when in reality it’s the small actions that can have the most meaning. You see when we are interacting with someone there is one true fact. That fact is that we really have no idea what someone truly is dealing with in their lives? Not one person on this planet has the same DNA or life experiences. One of the truly sad things that has happened is that often members of the opposite sex are afraid to reach out a helping hand in fear that they may be accused of something! That is so sad and it’s only getting worse. So people are forced to pause a second to calculate if their actions could be misconstrued? Actions can have unexpected consequences but taking that risk may be just the help that person needs.
For those who don’t know this is not my first blog. The first one lasted over a decade and frankly it had gotten massive in nature and had too many bad memories. Then yesterday I saw a blog post from a blogger that I first started reading over a decade ago. Then this morning I saw another one. Old blog friends are truly like a warm blanket on a cold winters night.
In a conversation with a bright and delightful woman today the subject of core values came up in regards to when things reach critical mass. When that happens is NOT the time to be looking for yours! A core value system is something that can take decades to develop. Much of it is based on what your belief system may or may not before that before critical mass hits. One of the things that complicates things is when you don’t have one and the critical mass hits those around you have no idea how you will react. For those few close to me know that is not an issue! I am not in a popularity contest when it comes to making tough decisions. I make them and simply move on! One of the big mistakes people make is they go back and second guess themselves repeatedly. That brings up the following question? Why? Nothing you do at that point will change the decision you had made previously. It’s important to understand that you and you alone are the only person on this planet of some 7 billion that have the same life experience and DNA that you do. You are uniquely you and only you can decide what core belief system you have.
Several months ago when Life Christian said they were closing all of their bookstores it was another nail in the coffin of retail bookstores. From a business point of view it probably was the right thing to do.
Something that has gotten lost in all of these bookstores closing is one undeniable fact. Years ago it was believed by many that the days of physical books would fade away and be replaced by e-books. The reality is that to a large degree it didn’t happen and the reason is pretty simple. There is something special about the smell and holding of a physical book. In reading a book that you hold in your hands allow you to be engrossed into what you are reading. An e-book can’t give you that same sensation.
So here is a question for all of you to ponder. What is your favorite book and why?
